Johnstone Construction have ticked off their first project for 2021, slip repair work in the Kaipara District.
The team successfully completed an embankment slip repair using recycled concrete mass blocks and local aggregate supply to provide a turnkey, design/build repair solution. One of Johnstone Construction’s student Interns (Civil Engineering), Ronan, was assisting with the project and enjoyed the exposure to sustainable construction techniques.
The project engineer noted, “The use of Topcon 3D Machine Control in our 13.5 ton ZX135 equipped with the Attach 2 Multi-tilt hitch meant we could design the job in 3DMC from the operators cab to adapt to what we found”.
The scope included subsoil drainage, a reinforced toe to the batter slope, and wash out erosion protection to existing waterways.
