power station civil & building works

We undertook thorough and collaborative planning, using a dedicated local team, to return the best result for the project and stakeholders.

Our work on the Ngawha OEC-4 project included; foundation completion for the OEC-4 and parts of the BOP; the 400 & 11KV Switchroom Buildings; and Design/Build of the Workshop, Fire Pump and Chemical Doing Buildings.

The Ngawha Springs Geothermal Power Station Expansion project was completed in 2021 with the commissioning of a new 25MW binary geothermal power plant, which aims to double Northland’s power supply. Johnstone Construction worked as a principal civil & building sub-contractor delivering turnkey civil and building construction services.

SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS:

  • Close engagement with the local community ensured the best local people and resources were engaged.

  • Accurate and thorough Quality Assurance management eliminated rework or delays because of ongoing Design Development.

  • Our construction tech platform Acuite provided visibility to everyone who needed it in real time.

  • We created detailed BIM models, including of the underground services and foundations. We put 3D Machine Control (3DMC) files of the underground services and foundations in our equipment so we could use clash detection to avoid underground services installed by others and increase our excavation accuracy and efficiency.

  • A Cadastral Surveyor, operated by our 2 Site Engineers, based onsite supported the construction Quality Assurance and Programme requirements.

  • During construction we introduced crane pads and strengthened haul roads to eliminate delays caused by the movement of heavy equipment across the site, which disturbed the work platform, and crane downtime because of soft ground.
