We are very proud that our own superstar Leading Hand/Apprentice Carpenter Keys Tahata has been recognised for his strong work ethic and commitment to encouraging safe work practices by the Site Safe New Zealand judges. Keys brings a very considered approach to working safely and even continues to do so when no one is looking.
Keys joined Johnstone Construction in 2018 as a temporary worker assisting on a petroleum site and quickly impressed the team with his enthusiasm and dedication. Since then he has been promoted to Leading Hand.
Keys has also recently been appointed the Health and Safety representative on the site he is working on. The nomination was by his peers showing the positive impact he has on others. Site Safe received a record number of scholarships for 2020. Johnstone Construction are proud of Keys for being successful in winning the 2020 Site Safe Scholarship in the Maori Category.
The acquiring of this award also reflects the positive impact of our Health and Safety Manager, Mickala Smith. Mickala’s passion for encouraging a worker-driven positive Health and Safety culture at Johnstone Construction has seen a strong uptake in awareness and ownership by all team members.
Health and Safety Manager, Mickala Smith, noted that;
“Keys does not shy away from Heath and Safety discussions… If a colleague reports a Heath and Safety concern, Keys will help them resolve it and report it”
