The Ngawha geothermal field is located just east of Kaikohe in Ngawha Springs.

Johnstone Construction is involved in the Ngawha power station expansion project, which aims to increase the reliability of Northland’s power supply. Once completed the generation capacity is expected to more than double, reaching 53 megawatts by June 2021.

The project has been divided into separable portions to maximize site use. Johnstone Construction are working on separable portions one and three.

Currently on separable portion one, the team are progressing though concrete works for the turbine generator foundation, as well as heat exchange foundation concreting works. While on separable portion three excavation works are underway with a blinding layer of lean concrete being placed.
