Malcolm Johnstone founded Johnstone Construction in 1987 after a long career in the construction industry. He has delivered a range of complex and multi-disciplined projects including the Naval Base Dry Dock in Devonport and VTNZ sites around the North Island. In 1995 he found his niche beginning a long term relationship with BP Oil NZ delivering their fuel station builds for the Upper North Island.

Malcolm is not only a highly experienced civil engineer and construction manager but an avid sailor and cyclist who enjoys the challenge of competing in both codes. When he is not on a bike or on the water he provides specialist advice based on his extensive industry knowledge to the Johnstone Construction team.

"My father is my biggest inspiration and my harshest critic. He pushes me to be the best I can be and not take anything or anyone for granted. If I can one day achieve the level of knowledge, depth of experience and respect from others, that he has over his time in the construction industry then I will consider myself fortunate. And if at the age of 63 I can cycle the length of the country in 25 days, most of it off road, I’ll consider it a life well lived!"
