Johnstone Construction Ltd was a proud sponsor of the Hera Everyday Goddess Cycling Project 2018, which aims to empower 10 - 18 year old girls to be active for life.
Our Operations Manager, Susy Pryde, a double Commonwealth Games silver medalist and former Olympian, collaborated with Hera on this project working with the girls to take ownership of the personal outcomes they want from their sport.
During July Susy mentored two students on a cycling tour in North America where they competed in a number of races starting with the Nevada City Cycling Classic in California and finishing with Tour de White Rock Criterium in Vancouver.
The team faced the challenges of travelling in a foreign country with their bikes, racing with professional women, surviving long days of travel and searing 40 degree race days but took it all in their stride. By the trip’s end, both riders had picked up the skills to keep up with the pro women at the California State Champs and even made the prize list – all with the Johnstone Construction flag flying high and proud!
